Al Foxx is a
humorous, motivational/
inspirational speaker
and
author.
Disabled from a motorcycle crash over 20 years ago, he
was told he would never
talk understandably, walk,
or drive legally. He now drives to his presentations,
limps on stage, and shares a powerful message on
Freedom, Equality, and Respect.
There are individuals
who have disabilities, but they do not have speaking skills. There are
others who have speaking skills but do not have disabilities. Al is both
disabled and has excellent speaking skills. Because of his disability, his
message has influence when shared with others.
Al Foxx lives in the
Seattle, WA area, but he speaks throughout the USA.
Al has a variety of
talks that he does for schools and colleges. Go to the

“I have a dream.”
These words from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous
speech are etched in the minds of all Americans.
Even though I am not an African American, Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr.’s dream speaks to me.
His words talk to my heart. I am an American with
disabilities and like him I, too, crave freedom, equality, and respect.
I have developed a special 45-minute
presentation for schools and colleges in honor of Black History Month and
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations.
Here are some excerpts from my
presentation:

We know the long history of how
Black Americans have struggled to be
accepted in this society. Laws have been passed to insure equality,
but those laws haven’t produced the desired results. More work, much
more work needs to be done.
My message to you today echoes the message of
Martin Luther King, Jr.:
What matters is not the color of our skin,
but the contents of our character.
What matters is not the condition of our body,
but the disposition of our heart.
What matters is that we keep striving toward the
goal of respecting each other as people, not as blacks or whites, not
as disabled or athletic, not as men or women, but as people who
deserve respect.
History has proven that the only way to reach
this goal is to keep striving toward the goal of equality and
remembering that
“Winners Don't Quit”
I don’t have black skin, but my paralyzed body
and my speech impairment keep many of my non-disabled peers from
seeing me as one of their own.
Regardless of our skin color or our physical
condition, to commemorate Black
History Month, the
question is:
What can each of us do to contribute to the
good of our country, the good of our
society, the good of each other?
Let me share with you what I
have learned living in this country as a man
with disabilities. It is my theme and also
the name of my business:
"Winners Don’t
Quit." |
